Trust your crazy ideas

“This might be crazy…” Thats how the conversation started one day at the dinner table.

What if, instead of winning 2-3 championships a week, we just focused on development. Just truly focused on developing females to be amazing athletes of the game through classes, clinics, practices, and lessons.

One any given weekend within the travel softball world, there are more than 50 teams in the state winning championships at any given level. The “win” in travel sports has become more important than the actual development.

Practice has always been my thing. I liked coaching in tournaments, but not nearly as much as I liked planning challenging practices and lessons. I consider my greatest skill being able to adapt my practice plan, drills, and outcomes to make 90 minutes the best part of an athlete’s week. I enjoy the finer parts of the game, the small details that make athletes exceptional.

But this crazy idea was big, even for me. Could I take the business model that we worked 8 years to build and blow it up based on a gut instinct that this was what the world of softball needed? Time will tell, but I have preached to the girls over 8 years to trust their crazy ideas, so I guess I will too.
